National Living Treasure Award (November 8, 2012)
Alternatively known as the Gawad sa Manlilikha ng Bayan. It is conferred to a person or group of artists recognized by the Government of the Philippines for their contributions to the country’s intangible heritage.
Highest award given to the finest traditional artists in the country that was institutionalized in 1992 through Republic Act No. 7335. The incentives given to the awardees are a gold medallion, the initial grant of P100,000 and lifetime monthly stipend of P10,000.
Launched “House of Inabel” in the town of Pinili in Ilocos Norte (2016)
Dr. Joven Cuanang, one of the founders of “House of Inabel”, provided Gamayo an opportunity to be engaged with abel weavers and teach the tradition of Ilocano weaving to ensure the sustainability of Inabel Industry and preserve their tradition. “The project aims to create products which are organic, ecologically sensitive and handcrafted by people.”
